Hello All:
1967 Volvo 122S wagon. This is basically a question on theory. I have read Phil's VClassics article on setting valve lash, and I understand the thinking behind setting the intake valve when an exhaust valve starts to open and setting the exhaust valve when an intake valve starts to close.
I just read an article on setting the valve lash for a Porsche 912 and they suggest setting both valves for each cylinder when the piston is at TDC. They suggest taking off the distributor cap, rotate the engine until the rotor is over the spark plug for cylinder one and using the 0-degree timing mark for fine-tune accuracy. They simply turn the engine a half-turn (90-degrees on the distributor) and set the other three cylinders the same way.
Is there any reason for Phil's method to be preferred? Just curious.
Cheers,
Jeff Pucillo
