Hesitation @ 1000RPM. 700

From this link I've cleaned throttle body, FP regulator is ~3yrs old, carefully cleaned oxidation off of AMM contacts and car is warming up properly.

700/900 Maintenance FAQ - The Volvo Owner's Resource

I haven't checked the knock sensor yet. I don't think it would cause problems at 1000rpm.

As per recent post about "surging idle" I now have a hesitation just above idle. IE it's a solid idle at ~750 rpm but as soon as I get up to 1000rpm it surges.

Here's what I've noticed associated:

- exhaust smells different (higher HC maybe)
- pings on boost

Otherwise drives well. This is a recent occurence—the 2 things I have done are t-belt and water pump. In fact it seemed to run worse after the water pump but I can't trace it back (obviously) to anything.

timing marks are aligned. The crank harmonic balancer rubber seemed intact ... I'd like to check timing too.

Vacuum is 18in/hg and fluctuates slightly.
