non-working brake lights 700 1990

First, the brake lights.
I will start by pasting in the following from the forums:

"" Yes, you are on the right track. I have experienced the exact same failure in my 1987 745T. The Lamp Failure Relay had an open circuit in the brake light section. No brake lights, and no cruise control.""

Now my history - my 1990 740 GLE was running great, albeit with a cranky right brake light that would choose to work, or not, on its own - or so it seemed. I fiddled and fiddled with those anooying push-in brackets, and eventually my dash board light alerting me to a bad bulb went out. I thought it was fixed, and was about to get the car inspected, when a friend tells me that none of my brakelights are working. I can not get them to fire at all now - none of the three work, and yet the warning light on the dash doesn't illuminate. HELP!! is that quote pasted above what I should be looking for? my cruise did stop working this year, although before the brake lights stopped. If that quote is on target, how do i go about closing that circuit???

Second - the mpg. I replaced a AMM last winter and it "repaired" my mpg from 14 to right around 20. now, I am struggling to keep it at 20, which seems absurd to me. I have read that the Seafoam stuff could be effective. If so, where do I spray that other than in the gas tank? I had an issue last week on a 400 mile drive where the car just lost all power when the pedal was pressed. it would stall, and I would start right back up and it would run fine for a minute and then do the same thing. I unplugged the AMM and that cranked the idle up to over 1200 rpm, but it worked at speed to get me home. I have now plugged the AMM back in and it's working fine, but the mileage has slipped again. HELP!!, and thanks in advance
