Fuel pump/filter replacement on a 1986 240 wagon 200 1986

I think it's time to replace the original fuel pump in my 86 240 wagon. I need to do this on the street as my garage is full of other stuff, including a car undergoing serious restoration, so I was wondering how difficult this will be. From what I gathered I need to actually get into the gas tank to replace the screen etc. As long as I'm doing this what other things should I replace? Do I need to drop the tank or can I access it through the car somehow? I don't want to spend a bunch of money so I want to do this myself but I don't want to start something I can't do on the street.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Scott
