Pulling distributor rotor 200 1986

This may be too simple to warrant a post, but here goes.

I need to pull the distributor rotor on my 86 240. I tried to pull it off, but it doesn't want to come. The Haynes manual says that the rotor should usually just pull off. This is a Volvo rotor. Any tricks I should know or just pull harder??

Depending on what kind of mechanism you have inside the distributor, you may not want bits of broken rotor falling inside.
Cracking it off is best - be careful with levering it to avoid bending the shaft.

The rotor will not come out easily unless it is pulled straight up. One way to do this is to wrap some rope around it and give it a sharp tug straight up.

If the rotor won't pull off easily, don't risk damaging the dist by hard tugging. It is suggested (by AyeRoll?) to crack the rotor eg. with vise grips so it can come off.

Should just pull up & off. Try wiggling it. If that doesn't work and if you are planning to replace it anyway then try pulling it out with a plier or vicegrip.
