power loss when warm 200

My 88 249 wagon starts and runs fine for about 5-10 miles then will start to die out under load when acclerating. It will idle and keep running but not under load. I stop and wait 5 minutes and its good to go again for another few miles till the process repeats. Im at loss with this one, any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks

Hi Arc,

Check your fuel pressure regulator first. Pull the vacuum hose off the front of it and check for fuel leakage. If there is any, then it's shot, and you'll need to replace it.

Best of luck,

Tony

The car is in Maine. I checked the fuel regulator as the last post suggested and it was fine. I have also tried another air mass meter from another car. Drove it again today after 8 miles it started loosing power. Stopped for a few minutes and then it ran again for a few more miles.

Hi Arc,

Second I would check the small, white vacuum tube which passes under the engine and connects to the ECU. Look for cracks or loose fittings at both ends.

Next, take a look at the fuel relay. Does it get hot when the car loses power? Try swapping it out with a good unit. Or open up the relay and check the circuit board for failed solder points. If the relay gets hot and has bad contacts, then suspect a problem with the intank or main pump.

Best of luck,

Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the reply. I will check the small white vacuum tube.
The relay does get hot when the car loses power. I've checked inside the relay and it actually looks new. I will try swapping it out with another. The main pump is new and the tank pump I just did some work on it but I am noticing the main pump getting louder then it should. I will recheck the in tank pump.
I appreciate your time and input!
Thanks again,
Alain
