metal cutting tool for patchwork--suggestions pls 200

hello,

what do yall recommend to cut some metal area out of my 245?

i need to cut some rust out. in my 86 245 behind the bumper where the metal curves down underneath that flat door, it's rusting but luckily, at no weld points.

i was thinking of just cutting an area around the rusted part out and cut out the same little section from a donor '93 245 and welding it on to my 86.

1) does a dremel have enough amps to cut this metal?
2) another type of saw?
3) use a cutting torch?
4) any other suggestions?

i'm glad i live in the south--i hate to see a good 240 just waste away.

thanks!

I just cut a rear window piece from my part car 1800 tonight to take to the body shop for a transplant on to my 65 1800. I used my sawzall and it woked really well. Cut another one in half last year using the sawzall and cutting discs on my side grinder. I prefer the sawzal because it does not create a fire hazard the way the side grinder does (lotsa really hot sparks), but with the correct cutting discs in the side grinder (I have a 5 inch Makita) you can make very precise and vary narrow kerf cuts. An air driven die grinder with a cutting wheel is a marvel to use; almost like surgery.

thanks for the reply. yep, thanks for the tip about the eyewear.

i'll get one with high amp rating & rpm.

i guess the higher it is, the easier the job will be.

      regards,

sawzall with 'the torch' blade of the highest teethcount you can find.
it has thinner kerf, and better manuverability than a grinder.
i can cut a car in half on one battery with one blade(mine is cordless).
with a little practice, your edges will come out perffect.

18 might be right, i forget...but the bigger toothed ones make the saw buck and jerk more than I like while cutting thimn metal marginaly faster.

for long blade life, water or oil the blade as you cut...
on a dry blade, when the paint starts to smoke (350-400F?), it has already got too hot at the tooth tips.

start the cut, and dribble a bit of fluid on there (you can alwyas find some kind at the junkyard)...if the blade doesen't get much over boiling, the teeth will last all day.
