740 -> 240 wheel compatibility? 700

A kind acquaintance just gave me two 15" snow tires on spare rims from his since departed 740.

My 740 is a turbo with the 16" wheels, and so they are of no use to me (he left them for me before I could verfiy their size).

I want to give the snows and rims away. Will they fit a 240, or must they go to another 740? I ask, because there are a couple of 240's in my nieghborhood.

Thanks,
mrad

    Are you talking about replacing a 14" 240 wheel with the 15" 740 wheel? Just curious. Thanks, Noel

      I'm not sure. I just today acquired the 15" 740 wheels, and was thinking I'd offer them to any local Volvo driver who could use them. Having not had a 240, I'm not sure what size they even have. looks like I'll probably be keeping them anyway.

    You can use them fine on your 740. Just because it came with 16" doesn't mean a 15" wouldn't fit.

    Anyways, yes, they will work on 240s too.

      Kane is right. Your turbo has 16" rims, but thinner tires. So the overall wheel size from the 15" rims ends up being almost identical. You could put 17" rims on the 740, and just get even thinner tires, and you would be fine. I'd keep the 15" so you can use them during the winter and keep the 16" rims in better shape...
