240 stalls at idle when at normal operating temperature 200 1991

I have a 1991 240 with a little over 120,000 miles> It runs great but lately it has started to stall when idleing when warmed up. It doesnt stall when I first start to drive if I stop and let it idle, but starts to idle badly and stall in traffic once it reaches normal operatin temp. I looked in vain for vacuum leaks.
What is my next step?
Thanks for any help

    Hey Bob

Did you clean your throttle body lately? My 92 240 with 132K did this same thing a couple years ago. After it was hot it would idle poorly. If I turned it off it was very hard to start till cool . I cleaned the throttle body & no problems since. The very thin layer of oil & gunk keeps the throttle plate from closing completely at idle & throws off fuel/air mix.

If you have already done this then you might want to remove the idle control valve & clean it.

Just a couple of thoughts... hope this helps! There are other possibilities..bad power stage, Fuel Pump Relay, Fuel Pressure Regulator...the list goes on... I would try the simple stuff first!

A less-than-obvious source for a vacuum leak is the snorkel between the AMM and the throttle body. Remove it and carefully inspect it for cracks, especially on the underside. If you find pinholes or major cracks, duct tape will work as a temporary fix until you can replace it.

    Hi Bob

A dirty Idle Control Valve or dirty throttle body or bad temperature sensor are a couple of things that could cause this. Try pulling the codes from the OBD on the driver's side strut tower & get back to us with the codes.

Much of the info in the ABOVE pull down menu : FEATURES>700/900 FAQs apply to your car which has the same engine & injection system

    Good Luck
