Volvo 240 1982 stalling 200 1982

I am new to working on cars. I have a volvo 240 1982 that stalls every once in awhile. I have heard that the fuel pump relay is often the problem, but my relay is not the plastic one that they have in later models, it is metal and i can't open it up. I was just wondering where i should start to try to fix this car. Thanks

    what is the fuel system? FI or carb?
    You will want to check the electrical system, wiring and fuses as well as that relay - electrical is the source of 95% of problems on 240s - the metal is usually fine.
