164 B30A What “electronic points “replacement to choose? 140-160 1973

Hi,

I’d like to change the ignition points of my 164 B30A to electronic ones.
What’s the best choice considering value for money?

Luminetion
Pertronics
Perlux
B30F system (hard to find)

Thanks,
Wouter

I run my 164E on LPG and have found that the Crane XR700 works very well. The led on the black box makes it a piece of cake to install.

If you can find one I'd say get a system from a 1975 164. Most homogeneous
    and a great ignition system.

My preference is the Crane system, which is optical -- works on the same principle as the Lumenition.

The Lumenition is old and can't drive a high-output coil.

Perlux and Pertronix are two names for the same system. It replaces mechanically driven points with a magnetically driven switch, but it's still a mechanical switch.

Thank you all for the responces,

I think I'll go for a Crane system, driving a high output coil might be a nice extra later on because I run it on LPG (liquified gas) and that demands a very good functioning ignition in order to run smooth at idle.

      bye, wouter

      Phil,

Is Allison still around? I have an old optical setup that served me well on a 140 and a Fiat 131, way back when.

Bruce, Crane bought the Allison system some years ago. Only the name and cosmetics have changed.
