another lesson learned!!! 200 1985

ok, guys, here we go again........ car was runnin fine, and then, she just coasted to a stop, again. my first thought, another fuel pump relay? i was really hopin it wasn't that, and it wasn't, thank God. as i was checkin for fire, i had pulled the #1 plug out, stuck it back in the wire, and held it to ground, hopefully to see it firin away, no such luck at first. well, as we were standin there decidin what to do/check next, my wife points out that the positive cable terminal was lookin a little corroded, even tho there is an anti- corrosion ring on the post... i'm big on keepin the terminals clean, have had more trouble w/ that kind of crap over the years than you can shake a stick at! anyway, i fiddled w/ the two lines crimped into what has to be the original terminal/cable to the starter, and the smaller cable that feeds, i guess, power to all the other stuff(distributor, ECM,etc.),and lo and behold, FIRE!!!! so, another lesson learned, another trip to my local parts store for new cables and what not, and back on the road she goes! anyway, that 25 amp fuse holder for the fuel injection system??, that runs parallel to the positive cable, i still have to replace, as it gave me trouble after i replaced the other pieces i mentioned. my local parts store didn't have anything that large, as far as wire gauge, to splice in, but i'll look in to gettin one of the same gauge/type sometime this week, being as this one's been spliced into the system at some point before now, and i'd like to stay w/ the same gauge wiring/ amperage as what's supposed to be there.another lesson learned, and hopefully , someone else can benefit from this tidbit of info......louis

I found a 25 amp fuse holder (with a cap) at Wal Mart in the RV section. Cheap and very easy to replace.

yea, that's the plan! showed my daughter what to do if it stops on her, damn thing hardly stays together.....when i first bought the car, i thought it was for some fog lights, or some other add-on item, why would they put that power source on a fuse like that, and not run it thru the fuse box? maybe someone knew there would be trouble w/ the fuel system? anyway, hopefully the one i replace it with will be better assembled than the one that's on here, it looks good, doesn't even look to be that old, however, as i found out yesterday, looks are deceivin...... have a good one, louis
