960 manual 900 1996

Before I even took delivery from Texas of our 96 960 I bought a Chilton manual for it (90-98, all models). When I thought I needed to replace the ball joints, it was pretty good and descriptive. However, it was on the wrong side of the car (literally) about fuel pump location, and when it says that the oil pressure sensor is on the side of the oil pan, I can't find it there.

Is there anything short of a set of Volvo manuals that does even a decent job of describing the 960? As far as I can tell, Bentley doesn't have one, and Haynes UK doesn't even have one, as far as I can tell on their website.

Thanks

You can also take a look at alldatadiy.com Its an online version of the service manuals and is as up to date as any source of info. From what I understand, lots of independent garages have a subscription that lets them have access to service manuals for all the makes and models they might encounter. The diy subscription for one year is 30 bucks and I think it renews for 20. You need a high speed connection to make good use out of it.

I saw that on a web page in the Autozone site. I didn't know what was in there, whether it was home grown info, copies of Chilton/Haynes or what. And I could find no way to determine whether my car would be in there. I have, in the past, signed up for stuff like that to later find that "everything BUT your particular model is in there."

Thanks for the lead. Even if I never do a lick of work on the car myself, it would be a great resource to have.

You are welcome. I have had the subscription for two years now. It is about as complete as you can expect and is specific to your make, year and model. I would not go out and purchase it just for grins, but when the time comes that you do need to spin a wrench or you need specific info such as wiring diagrams, then it is worth the bucks to do things right the first time.

There have been various CD-ROMs offered on e-Bay. They're mostly good, but not your green book. Others who rely heavily on these can comment further.
