non-turbo - automatic
i have vacuum at all points and the brake lever-activated switch for seal and a proper alignment threreof
i have continuity at the main fuse panel fuse and the in-line fuse
i have continuity through the stalk-switch in all proper positions

there is a small black resistor with a green wire and a brown wire which plugs into the harness just upline from the cruise control box - through it i get no continuity nor will a 12v current pass - could this be my problem?

my wire to the throttle spindle is also intact and functional

any ideas?

I'd say your at the point where you need to start swapping parts. I have had one Dana control unit go bad, and the easiest way to diagnose it was to swap it out with another one from the junk yard.

I have looked at the Volvo Service Manual Wiring Diagrams book for 1985 240, and in the Volvo installation instructions for 1984/5 cruise control.

Nowhere did I see a resistor. However, I do see two wires, green and brown, leading into the retardation sender. That thing apparently has a weight or some such that moves when the car slows, or starts downhill. Then it opens the circuit, dropping out the control.

See if that's what you have. See if the system works with the green and brown wires connected together. You won't have that retardation control, so make it a short flat-land test drive.

Good Luck,

Bob

After I started this post.......... 200

AOL dropped me off line. At that time, you had received no answers.

So after re-connecting, I picked up where I have left off, not noticing your discovery.

Good for you.

Bob.
