WHO KNOWS HOW TO REALLY CLEAN A WINDSHIELD? 200

It is beautiful weather out and I head East early and West late and always have the sun in my eyes and no matter how much I clean with Windex the sun refracts something fierce through my windshield and there always seems to be a film on the inside. Sometimes I can't see where I'm going. Does anyone know how to get this clean?

Glass cleaner and very fine steel wool. Don't worry the steel wool won't scratch. As an aside, your windshield might just be old. My old windshield was do pitted that I had the problem you describe. No amount of cleaning would have helped. Luckily, my girlfriend at the time broke it so I got a new one. What a difference!

3 steps to a spotless windshield:
1) Use a good cleaner. Ed mentioned, Stoner, that's a good one.
2) wipe the sprayed on cleaner with 0000 steel wool (be sure the steel wool has 4 zeroes, anything less would scratch the window)
3) wipe it off with newspaper (don't use colored pages, use pages with black ink)
You'll love the results

Newspaper is great for any kind of window and really really cheap. Using it is an old house-wife's trick my mom taught me.

Cure for Between-the-Visors Glare 200

This does a great job of blocking the glare that comes in between the mirror and the tips of the visors.

With this, you almost never need to swing the visors around to follow the sun.

It does block a small amount of glass, but I think that part is legal to block - note the index marks on some windshields, and note how far the tinting goes down the glass. This matches that pretty well.

Cut a piece of card-weight material 17" x 5.5"
(42-43 cm x 13.5 - 14. cm for Euro-folks)

I used black material from a report cover, taping together 2 pieces to get the length.

Slide it up between the windshield and mirror,
till it hits the center visor clips.
Center it so each side meets and is just under the 2 sun visors.
Stick into place with tape, up against the headliner.
Maybe stick on with Velcro material later.

The Best stuff I have found cleaning windshields inside and out is Invisible Glass by Stoner Solutions. You can order off the web or have seen it carried at our local Walmart and Pep Boys for about $5 bucks. Here is the web http://www.stonersolutions.com/ address.

I second the vote for Invisible Glass. Great stuff, smells just like the older formulation of Dirtex brand window cleaner before they changed it, so must have butyl cellusolve in it.
