Will 83-87 740 Sedan Tail Light Assembly work on 88 760 GLE? 700 1988

Hello,

I have a spare tail light assembly lying around from an 87 740 sedan and know somebody with an 89 760 GLE sedan. My question is, will this one work on his car? I have been told no from a parts supplier but from what I can tell, it looks like it is the same. Does anyone out there know this for sure?

Yes it will work. However, if you are pulling this from the yard, grab all the bulbs and their housing to have extra. Also when you dissasemble the lights. Clean the one you will be using with cloth and soapy warm water. Then wipe it off with regular water. Then let it dry. Make sure its completly dry before you even begin to put it back into the housing, otherwise you will have problems. Also make sure that foam seal is good. If its not you will have water in your taillights.

It will be fine as a lens/housing donor. You would probably want to transfer (keep) the circuit sheet off the 760 to the new light. There are some circuit changes in these lights.
