value of a 1988 volvo 740 Turbo intercooled? pic attatched

Hi all,

I just posted this in classifieds, but i want to know the realistic value of this car, the Kelley blue book seems high.

1988 Volvo 740 Turbo Intercooled.

286.000 miles

New Autoscania engine in 2001? (documented) with new turbo. (70+K on it)

new trans in 2003

interior is above average (leather is fair) typical headliner issues, as well as dash crack

exterior is fair, no rust at all, a few minor dings and a chip in the hood.

Everything works, just reset the srs light (thanks aye-roll) has not come back on.

synthetic oil since day one. (have the reciepts)

She does not leak or smoke...guy was a volvo fanatic and did some mods to the airbox and the like. everything works, i also have the service folder from the original owner that is 2+ inches thick and shows the amount of maintenance and work done to it.

I picked it up for my wife recently, and now she wants a truck (and i agree) since we have country property and this is not appropriate for transporting lumber and supplies down a muddy dirt road.

Any thoughts on true value? i was thinking $1600 since it needs new brake pads, and a through cleaning. (i paid more for it cash/trade from a dealers friend)

Thanks in advance.

I have a similar car, 88 745T M46, everything works including AC, one family ownership, $20,000 plus in receipts for repairs and maintenance, 267,000 miles (original engine, but synthetic oil; newer turbo and many other newer parts) that I will be selling soon. I think you are in the ballpark for the price. I will try to get $1500 for mine. It is a great car. With this age and mileage, the market is small -- you need to find a Volvo lover who can work on the car himself or herself. You can't claim the car is likely to provide years of trouble free driving. Things can and will go wrong with greater frequency than most younger cars.
