How do I get the pully off the alternator 200 1990

Hi all

I have to get the pully of the old alternator to install it on the new one, how do I do it i.e. it spins. Similarly when I get it off how do I put it on the new alternator and what torque should it be

thanks much

How do I get the pully off the alternator 200 1990

I used a brute force method on my '86 that may or may not be ideal. I put the alternator on the floor and I jammed a large screwdriver in the cooling blades. I then used a wratchet and a piece of steel pipe that I use as a breaker bar while standing on the alternator to keep it from moving. The screw driver hit the floor and kept the pully from turning while the nut came off. This method worked fairly well and without specialty tools, but there is some risk of making the assembly untrue. I do not know that the correct torque spec is and I tightened a little past were the lockwasher was almost completely smashed down. my $.02

When all else fails, give it to a 10 year old. They can take apart anything that seems impossible

Electric impact gun works just fine.

When I did this - the folks at Autozone used air tools to do the switch for me.

Ditto. It really takes an impact wrench. While I did buy the alternator from them, they would have swapped it no mater.

Autozone is just the best.
