No Blinkers 200 1988

A couple of weeks ago the blikers would not work not even the hazard lights. So I check the relay and cleaned the contacts and the fuses. The relay looks almost brand new. They worked for awhile until night before last and they stop working again. The contacts and fuses are still clean. I did not clean the ground if there is one. Where is it so I can clean it and what else will I have to do to get the blinkers to work again?
The relay may have been replaced in the past due to it not being a Bosch relay and looking so new.

Thanks,
Ace

No Blinkers or Hazard lights (fuse corrosion and water leakage from windshield) 200 1988

Last year I experienced the exact same symptoms as mentioned above, -no blinkers or Hazards.

In my case (not necessarily yours too), I had a slight windshield leak which is common to '75-'90 240s. The leak caused a bit of corrosion to form in the fuse holders that was not visible until I had removed the fuses. I removed each fuse, sanded the tips with 250 grit sandpaper, and then used a brass wire brush on the fuse holders. After reinstalling the fuses, the blinkers and hazards worked just fine.

Hopefully, it's as simple as this for your vehicle. However, if it's not, check the power path from the fuse box and make sure that none of the spade terminals behind the fuse holders are unplugged. Use a volt meter and make sure that you have power going to the relay, resolder the relay circuit board, and check the hazard and turn signal switches.

Lastly, the '91-'93 240 vehicles came with an improved glass sealing system that is not prone to leaks as the earlier cars. If you ever need to replace your windshield, tell the glass shop that you have a '93 and they'll install the new style windshield. There was no change to the body of the car, just a different mounting system for the glass (the newer style is easily identified by the flush-mount rubber trim around the windshield, rather than the raised rubber/chrome trim of the '75-90 vehicles).

God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.

Me too 200 1988

I also have a 240 ('86) with blinkers and flashers not working.
Am looking forward to what you wizards have to say here.
I may be attacking this one this weekend.

Me too 200 1988

Resolution:
Found and removed flasher relay.
Substituted relay from another 240.
Formerly non-functioning flashers now worked.
Removed "borrowed" relay.
Returned original.
Works!

Go figure!

Just as easy 200 1988

It is a crack in the solder inside the flasher relay. Give it a tap, rap or a healthy slap; it will work for a while. Go figure when it dies again - it will.

Easy one 200 1988

if both hazard and turn signal, then relay needs to be resoldered, or for the money, replaced.

What if it's just the turn signals?

Thought I'd throw this one in. Last week having taken the center console off, for replacing some burnt bulbs, my blinkers were not working. I had unplugged the hazard switch and when replugged everything worked.
