Well I spent more time on the fan this morning and noticed that the typical bad wiring needs replaced going from the firewall to the thermo switch. The wiring from the thermo-switch to the fan was pretty bad aswell. I ohm'd out the wiring and it is good to the switch so I started the car and let it warm up to see if the switch would kick on. The switch never kicked on but I don't think it was hot enough for it to do so. I want to buy a new fan but where is the best place to buy from?

Secondly I have had the belt off of the compressor since I bought the car last year. Today I turned the ac on and tried turning the compressor and could tell it was working. I turned it off and the clutch would free up the wheel. After I get the fan taken care of I want to get the ac going. Can I buy a kit and change out the compressor/accum and go from there? thanks in advance

Are you referring to the electric fan in front of the condenser? In an '87 it has nothing to do with the A/C, nor does it turn on during normal operation, only if the radiator gets to 95C or thereabouts.
The fan should come on if you short the thermal switch, though.
If the clutch and compressor are working, why not just put the belt back on?

the fuse for the ac (30) amp is not blown but stuck in the fuse holder. From what I understand there is a problem that will let the compressor run even if it is low of freon causing the fuse to melt. So I would rather take care of this problem before I create bigger ones. Anywho thanks

I'd check out the source of your information; doesn't sound likely.

it may be a bad source (700 faq) and the volvo dealership confirmed it. Anywho I bypassed the thermo switch and the fan does work. I will rewire bypassing the switch and then move onto switching over to 134. Arizona here I come. thanks
