Another problem with the reverse detent sleeve. 200 1983

I have a 83 244 turbo with a m46. I'm haveing a hard time replacing my reverse detent sleeve. I had it all put back togeather with the over drive wire inplace and find that pulling up on the reverse pull on the gear shift lever becomes difficult. It fine with out the wire in place, but when ever I put it on with the wire as it should it is way to stiff to pull off. Any ideas here before I loose my sanity with this 15 minute job that has taken me five hours so far.

You're saying its hard to pull up the reverse detent lever because the wires are in the way???

Because that is what happened to me when I pulled the tranny on my beater. The thing is, I really didn't care about how the hell it went back together, but I can see your concern. The reason it did that is because the wires aren't straight in the shift lever, there's slack so they kinda bend over and don't leave room for the lever to slide up to get into reverse.

Not positive, but a good thing to try and do is look where the wires enter into the stickshift, and pull them out to the point where they stil make contact with the overdrive button, but no more, that way they're not in the way.

I think the wires enter about halfway down into the shifter.

Post back with questions,

Smith

Thnaks for the quick replyI'll do that in the next couple of days. I got of early today thinking that I could get some things done with the bricks today and I did not get a far as I would have liked. I was just worried that the detent plate was broke. Thanks again and happy bricking.
