drivers window not cranking up properly....tips? 200 1986

alright guys here's my next issue that is actually something i havent dealt with very much in one of these cars.. the drivers window rolls up at the wrong angle i think after i've watched it a few times.. its a manual crank window, and when it cranks all the way up, there is a 1/4 inch gap between the window and the top rear seal....so i tried it as a rolled it up and pushed the window toward the rear of the car and rolled it up and things seal up fine....so the window moves in its track a bit...is there something that should be holding it stationary? any experience with this?
Thanks

I've had to replace a window channel once, for a 244 that had run over the felt/rubber/steel that it's made out of. Not too hard once the right things were greased. If the track is folded over anywhere, that may need to be done.

I've seen lots of 240s with the window separated from the steel channel that holds the glass. That just gets replaced, a good one shouldn't be more than $25 from a junkyard.

It could simply be a loose regulator. Remove the door handle and panel, and look for loose 10mm nuts holding the regulator to the door.

Last, the door could be cracked. This usually only happens to cars with power windows. The inner door skin will crack in the center of the top, and in one or two other spots where the top of the skin meets the window tracks. A quick patch with a MIG welder fixes this easily enough.

Good luck with it!

I popped my window out of the channel in cold weather once. As far as reattachment went I used phenoseal. I also sprayed some lubricant in the channels to the window would operate easier.

While the alignment might be off, more likely your regulator is bent. If the window ever got out of alignment and you just tried rolling it up harder, you probably bent the regulator. swing by a junkyard and pick up a 'new' one. Should be less than 20$.

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. For awhile it would not go up at all, at least not without help from hands on both sides. I tried to bend the regulator back to straight, It worked without help, but left the small gap you speak of. Finally a 'new' regulator fixed the problem.

Window support channels rust lots. Rear connection to hoist is probably rotted. Support channel holds the glass pressed in a rubber gasket into the channel. You can replace the channel with a new one, just pry the channel off, or the glass and channel together. Junkyard source is cheapest.
