960 compared to a 740 900 1995

I am currently considering purchasing a '95 960 and selling my '89 740. Just looking for information concering the pros/cons of this. Any major problems with the 960? Would it be best for me to just stick with the 740?

The 960 has about 120k miles less than my 740, which is something that is definitely pushing me towards the 960.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    960 compared to a 740 900 1995

My "experience" from owning a '96 965 and participating on this forum for several years is that the '95 was a "first year" kind of model after a major redesign with a few design related issues. Then, in '96 they got most things "standardized" and the build quality was good. From '96 to the last '98 S/V a few more design related things were fixed but the build quality got slowly worse. Remember these things are "relative" to expectations!

Even with the "problems", and I've had many of the items reported in the FAQs, this is still the best car I've ever owned in 40 years of driving. I still love it and my wife prefers driving it to her "new" 2003 BMW 530i.

Of course, the 91 to 94 960s were on the older 760 chassis/suspensions.

I just went through a similar situation. I purchased a used '87 745 last Christmas with 123K miles. kind of to replace my 245 with 190K miles that I was planning to give to my son. What a difference btw the 245 and 745. However, since I really wanted a 745T or 945T, I kept looking. In Dec I gave up hope of finding a low mileage turbo and started looking for a 965/V90. I'd always hessitated even looking at the white blocks. Long story short...in Jan I purchased a 96 965 with 70K miles. Bottem line is that this is the best car, new or used, I have ever had! Power is great, ride is plush w/o being sloppy and it is a beauty.

I say don't hessitate if you can find one with service records. Note there are a few on Ebay.

    Good luck!
