'service' light on 200

My "service" light just appeared on my cluster yesterday. It stays on for about 2 minutes and comes on every time you start the car. My car seems to be running fine. How can this be turned off? Thanks!

    here's a fairly complete list for all RWD's 200

There's a fairly comprehensive list of reset procedures for all models in this ancient post in the archives.

For your '93 240 it says you're reset push button is on the back of the instrument cluster behind and just above the rightmost dash warning light. If you don't have air bags then just drop the front of the under dash cover and you should be able to grope up for it and push it in toward you. If you can't find it then you'll need to remove the under dash cover and lie on your back in the footwell with a flashlight to find it. If you do have air bags there will be a knee bolster in your way. If you're good you can sometimes reach up behind it, but you'll probably want to remove the knee bolster assembly for proper access. For models like yours with reset buttons on the back of the cluster, I find going up behind the dash far simpler than removing the instrument cluster (as the early post suggests) and there is less chance of damaging something.

The reset button on my '90 and my '91 is a tiny button that you access through a hole in the clear plastic over the speedometer. No need to crawl under the dash.

An ice pick or small awl is required. The reset does not work very well. It may take two or three attempts to get it to reset. Don't get frustrated or you might crack the plastic speedometer cover.

Removing the bulb is not a bad suggestion.

Since it's useless, and universally ignored, and the newest of these cars are 12 years old, just remove the lamp. Now you have a spare to keep in the glovebox.

Stupid service lights anyway. All they do is worry people.

On my 89 the switch is behind the instrument cluster. If you have a Hanes manual it tells you what to feel for.

yeah, you have to move the seat far back, then remove some of those black plastic 1" diameter retaining pegs so you can drop the "carpet" covering the under dash. then look for a button-like thing right behind the odometer(?)...I forget if it was black and squarish, but you can do a search and you'll find it is sooooo easy to reset it! before I had the shop do it for me for a nominal fee when I got my oil changed (the thing is that I get my oil change every 3k miles and the light comes on every 5k miles). no more of that. it is really easy! and the lovely part of resetting it yerself is that it's FREE!

btw, this is in reference to the '89 model year

Depends on the year. On the newer ones, there is a button on the bottom right of the gauge cluster, use a nail or something to press it in. The service light is just an interval light to remind you its time for an oil change or something of the sort. Mine never seemed to come on at any logical interval, like 5K miles, it just came on when it felt like it I guess. I always ignored it.
