i've encountered a problem.... 200 1987

so my odometer stopped working and i replaced the gear. when i pulled out my cluster, a couple wires came disconnected before i could get a chance to see where they went. now i'm LOST. speedometer doesn't work, tachometer shuts off when out of overdrive, low battery light is on. i'm worried.

i know where almost all the wires go. there's a wire and a small wire cluster that i'm unsure of. the wire is orange and is single. the wire cluster is three wires, one red, one blue, and one red and black (i think-i might be wrong on the colors) but i don't think any other clusters are in threes so it's pretty obvious. it has a white female end. PLEASE HELP, I HAVE TO GO TO WORK IN 20 MINUTES!!

The white, 3-pin cluster goes on the speedo. However, it carries +12v to most everything (Red/Black wire from ignition switch).

i'm still really unsure as to where on the speedo this is. i may not be looking in the right place, but the back of the speedo appears to just be a white panel. =\

IMO, it's not something you want to try by feel. It's a funky little fitting on the right side -- in the same relative position as the Service Light reset on the left side.

If you have a stray Y/R wire, it goes to the single push-on terminal in the lower right corner of the panel (for the OD OFF arrow light).

yup, i've got the Y/R wire.

driving to work today, these are some of the things that happened (my problem wasn't resolved before i had to leave):

battery warning light came on
OD arrow was on, but OD was on. when i turned OD off, tachometer shut off. tachometer needle is jumpy and when i'm cruising it's at 1500 rpms, and as soon as i touch the accelerator it goes down to 1000. of course, speedo and odometer don't work. lastly, when i turn on rear fog lights, the light in the switch doesn't turn on. that may just be because the light came out of the housing and i was in too much of a rush to notice. my dimmer works-i think i read earlier that the orange wire is the dimmer.

again, i'm still unclear as to where the little three wire cluster/orange wire go. i don't want to simply connect them to anything. anything specific would be great.

if someone could do me a huuuuuge favor, just open that up in paint and draw a couple arrows to where i need to connect. for reference, there appears to be a two-pronged doohickey (mind my technical jargon) to the left of the speedo (left in the picture).

Look at your picture. On the left of the speedo (right side actually) the three wire connector pushes down on the small brown "circuit board" that sticks from the rear of the speedo. That's the only place that 3-wire plug will fit.

As I said in my 1st post, that plug (Red/Black wire) is the basic power feed for the whole panel. Until you connect it, most/all your indications will be unreliable and inexplicable.

The orange wire? Don't see it in wiring diagram so far. May relate to Manual trans. Which tran do you have?

Until you reconnect the 3-wire plug, I can't speculate any further.

dude you need to make sure you are still charging, if you don't have one, buy a multi meter, (you'll need it) make sure the alt is putting out 14 V (aprox) or definaetly more than when the engine isn't running. WHen the battery is low all kinds of things go wonky. Sure might just be the wiring at the dash so do that asap. Can't help you with that as I don't remember it's been awhile..........
