Glove Box Lock - can it be disassembled ? '81 244

Can these glove box locks be disassembled. When the plastic/rubber turning knob gets chewed or disintegrates, can it be changed for one from a wrecking yard, then change the lock key innards ?

Also, if you are lucky to find one in good shape, you can just change the rubber part. Look for one like that on the right for your 81.

Maybe, by a sharp locksmith. BTDT.

What if you find a working lock in a junk yard, and get the VIN from the donor car. Then a dealer can cut you a key for it.

Remember that later glove box locks don't work in earlier 240s. Fatter lock, longer reach, different key style.

Good Luck,

Bob
