Small clock question. 200 1992

Quick question, I'm replacing my factory large clock with the large tach/small clock set-up tommorow. Just wondering if the clock should be in the upper or lower blank to "look" Volvo correct. Also does anyone know of the ambient air temp guage? I've heard of that option and would love one for the other blank, what years or models it was offered, any info appreciated. Thanks

Small clock question. 200 1992

Is the small clock supposed to light up at night? Mine doesn't and I can't see the time in the dark. Just wondering. And if the bulb is out, how do I get to it? Thanks!

Johnny, since I have my small clock sitting here on my desk, I checked it out and it has a small bulb holder that pushes into the rear of the guage. Bulb is TINY!. Maybe someone here knows where to get the proper bulb, on mine a green wire with slip on spade connects it. IMHO easiest way to get at it would to be to pop off the front bezel and pull guage out of dash to service it.

The bulb is known as a "Rice bulb" i've found. It's the same one that goes in all your idiot lights and such. Cheap at the dealer, although i've found canadian tire (in canada, obviously) has them as well.

Yes, it's supposed to light up. Take the clock out and look in the back of it for a tiny lightbulb. I haven't had to take mine out since I installed it so I'm not sure about the bulb thing. I do know however that the small clock is supposed to light up.

I think there were a number of different configurations over the years.
I just came across an 82 240 series in the junkyard today that had
the standard big clock, speedo, fuel and temp then in the two
spots to the right of the main cluster it had a mini tachometer
on top and an oil pressure on the bottom. I picked them up for
$10 - I'll probably put them in my 240 this summer - It would
be nice to have an oil pressure gauge.

Good score. I hope you also took the sender for the oil pressure gauge. If not go back and get it.

The small clocks were std. on some if not all of the GLs. Our two 244GLs both have the clock in the upper hole.

By the way, the addition of a voltage gauge in the bottom hole really looks nice with the small clock. I added one to our '88 244GL. The gauge is also useful for keeping track of the health of your charging system.

I put mine in the upper blank on my '91 SE Wagon and wished I'd put it in the lower one for the sake of visibility. I put it in the lower one on my '93 Classic Wagon especially since the Classic Limited Edition # plate is on the top one. You can see pictures of it on eBay now it's #4535854317.
