How to open trunk on '92 940 900 1992

OK, this one would have been better asked before I went through the pain of dropping the fuel tank to install a new fuel pump (only to find that there's an access panel from the trunk).

Inexplicably, our trunk wont open. At first we thought it was the key lock that was a problem but we have since drilled it out and pushed/pulled on the rod and no love at all. I've looked all inside the trunk (via the little whole behind the child seat) and haven't been able to find a cable or release to pop the trunk. I think fixing it is going to be quick but getting it open to fix it has been quite perplexing. Has anyone run into this and found a solution?

    If you haven't guessed from the other two posts, the key lock just locks/unlocks the handle. The real handle is above the license plate and there is nothing to look at from the pass thru hole in the back seat.
    If the latch failed completely, then you will have to dismantle the rear seat. Good luck,

    Should I assume you've had it open before now? I am just remembering the feeling when I first found the latch on a 940 sedan's trunk lid lip, after staring at it for some time.

        No, me too. We 240 owners get stuck in our ways. On my first go at the new 940 acquisition trunk, I was using the key, pushing on the keyslot, pulling up on the spoiler, thinking it was just stuck.

      Alas, it appears as if explosive might be the only choice.

      Yes, I am aware that the key just locks the handle :) Fortunately, when we first got it, I just happened to put my hand there to lift the trunk so I found it right away.

      Yes, we have been in the trunk. Up until 5-6 weeks ago we hadn't had any problems with it then all the sudden we couldn't get into it at all. As I mentioned, we drilled out the lock and got hold of the connector that runs to the handle but no luck at all.
