Vacuum Leak B230FT and Fix !!! 700 1987

I finally located the source of the vacuum leak in the '87 B320FT. I had the drummer sit in my car, put it in gear, step on the gas and apply the foot and E-Brake.

After feeling around under the intake manifold, the IAC, all small diameter vacuum lines I found a tear in the turbo intercooler to turbo S shaped hose right at the junction of the connector that connects the hose from the flame arrester to the S Shaped hose. It was soft and was torn and it collapsed when Postal boy was loading the engine with the brakes on.

I removed the hose and did an exquisite duct tape repair on the defective area that would make even Red Green proud !!

After reinstalling the repaired hose, the turbo gage returned to almost 7 o'clock when the car was idling - what a F*****G relief it was to finally locate the source of the leak. No more black smoke out of the tailpipe and I am anticipating much better gas mileage.

I want to replace the wastegate actuator (diaphragm and rod) and the S shaped hose with new parts. I am under the impression that Volvo cost for a hose is like $180.00 and the diaphragm is most likely as overly priced. I want to know where a good parts source is for both of these parts that are of excellent quality and not overly price inflated like Volvo parts are.

I can buy Volvo parts but, if the parts are cheaper somewhere else and of equal quality I'd rather spend the money I could save on parts to help pay for our drummer's alcohol detoxification (LOL !) before he goes Postal (he's a real live postal worker).

Do you guys know where I could get these parts for a decent price, I want new parts and not junkyard stuff.

Thanks for all of your help, it's been great !! I am really having a good time working on this car, it's a healthy challenge,

Rich;

Good news to hear you have it running again. Here's a good place for those turbo hoses (although a few folks complain of the fit but heaps cheaper than OEM)

Norm,

Thanks for your encouragement. I am reallu happy that I found that leak in the AMM to Turbo hose, it took time but, I enjoyed working on the Volvo.

I just put a hose on order from FCP Groton thru their secure transaction server. 65.00 plus S&H = 80 bucks. It's fine with me.

Do you know where I can get a Waste Gate (diaphragm gizmo) acutator from ?

Once I replace these two parts, the car will be ready for the long haul although I'll no doubt do more work to it when the weather warms up. I really like that car since it has never "not started" when I was out anywhere and I can fit my guitars/amps/stuff in the back of the station wagon, it's great !

I still have a minor performance issue but I'll drive it the way it is for a little while, maybe a week of two until I replace the Turbo hose and the actuator.

You guys have been a big help so thanks for your time and assistance..It's greatly appreciated.

Regarding your wastegate parts; Call FCP groton directly, they have a lot more parts than they list on their site.

Thanks Sully,

I put the AMM to Turbo hose on order from FCP Groton on Saturday. It should be here anytime.

I'll follow up with a call to them about the actuator.

Good to know about the expanded and non documented parts availabiltiy.

Thanks again.
