INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NIGHTMARE!! NEED SOME ADVICE! 700

90 760T - Speedometer issue (after alternator belt breakage, speedo needle swung to back side of pin "stop" just before the engine died) necessitated instrument cluster removal. Not NEARLY as easy as described in FAQ although I did get it out. Can NOT figure out how to separate the bezel from the instrument cluster/printer circuit board etc.......

Have removed all the perimeter screws....does the lower section "snap" out? Can't get the bezel and cluster to separate.

Obviously don't want to break anything here......

Help!

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NIGHTMARE!! NEED SOME ADVICE! 700

Many of the screws attach to other portions of the cluster. I don't have one sitting in front of me right now, but...

I know that ALL of the slightly larger headed screws have to come out. If you barely wiggle the rear of the cluster, you can sometimes tell where you are still attached. Most likely, you will end up taking out more screws than you need to...I always do...but just get happy with your screwdriver, and eventually you'll achieve success. Just remember where the larger screws went...

Hope this helps,

Chris

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NIGHTMARE!! NEED SOME ADVICE! 700

Chris,

Thanks for the advice. Immediately after posting my message, I went back and sure enough, only two lower screws were left holding the housing to the bezel. After separating, I gently repositioned the speedo needle to the left of the needle pin stop and reassembled everything. Except for a lot of crumbled plastic where the screws attached, everything went back together fine. The speedo works great.

Thanks again.
