dangling connector near block on 93 940 turbo 900 1993

I just bought a 93 940 turbo, and noticed that there is a 2-pin connector hanging just under the head near cylinder #2. There is a sensor in the head/block right there, but it has a cable on it already.

The connector is the style used on the IAC valve or TPS, and the cable has a rubber bellows-like jacket on it. Its cable is tied at one point into the harness that leads off to the alternator, although I couldn't tell exactly whether the wire for this mystery connector runs there.

Can anyone tell me what this connector is for?

I just bought same year and model and noticed same dead end connector. That's probably the knock sensor that you're noticing in the vicinity below the intake manifold.

I bought mine from knowledgable Swedish Imports repair shop (benicetoyourvolvo.com) in OKC. Check out their cool home page. Their mechanic says it's for EGR (exhaust gas recovery) not installed on this VIN version. You might be curious to cross reference your VIN engine and emission codes against a VIN decoder. You can find the decoder at volvocar.us, owners info. You will find engine code "83" is for B230F w/ EGR, whereas code "87" is the Turbo LH Lambda. And emission codes "0" or "3" are without EGR. These codes are in the 6/7 and 8 VIN digit positions (L to R), respectively.

By the way, after driving a 244 for 5 years, this car is a dream. It actually acclerates when I step on the gas pedal. I love it! How you like yours?

And how about those rear fog lights? It wasn't until after I punched out the right reflector bulb position that the dealer told me that there is only a left, rear, fog lamp by design. Owner's manual, also, footnotes this info.

I'm pretty sure that is a diagnostic connector (for what, I don't know). Mine has the same one.
