Can someone please tell me how to put the flywheel back on right after someone (me) DID NOT MARK IT WHEN I TOOK IT OFF. I was changing the rear seal

This is the location of the flywheel at TDC on 1993 940. You can see the crank sensor mounting near 1 o'clock in the photo. Hope this helps.

Edit: TDC of the flywheel in the 1993 940 looks totally different than John Sargent’s photo of TDC in a 740. The punched metal rim around the circumference for the crank sensor reference is different too.

I'll bet your car is Rex/Regina fuel injection. The hole void is still at the starter opening.

Yes, a 1994 LH/EZ116K converted to a Rex/Regina. I’m not sure which FI/ign system babydsol has in the 89GL. There was no indication in his posts so if he dose have an R/R it may help.

    1992 740 turbo wagon
Im wonderin if I indexed the flywheel incorrectly, could the car ever start and operate normally?????
The reason for asking is ever since I installed a fresh motor and turbo the car will never start the first time cold but will fire right up after many tries. I now believe that the flywheel was not positioned right since I did not check it. It a 1 in 8 chance that I have it correct isnt it?
It takes about 20 tries of bumping it over beforeit will even sound like it wants to go. Seems like a fuel problem but acts as if the car has to "re-learn" the flywheel position every time it is started after sitting for more than 5 hrs. It will pop, then pop a little more a little more then will finally start but run only if I "feather the pedal" for about a minute or so. Then the idle circuit seems to pick up and hold it steady. After that the car runs normally. Any help?? sector7g@mhcable.com

Once again, the information is in the 700/900 FAQ. Put the engine on #1 TDC, and pull the starter (after disconnecting the battery ground). You will see the hole void as in the picture, at the bottom of the starter opening.

If it is LH 2.2, pretty much just have to get all the bolts back through the fw into the crank any old way that. If it is LH2.4 with the indexing holes around the periphery, look for Sargents post on using the starter and the odd holes to line it up at TDC.
