ECC Clarification 700 1987

While reading the FAQ on a No Heat issue it stated to check the Heater Control Valve for vaccumm which i have to be none. It also said there was a vac res under the pass side conpartment is this correct for the 87 765T?

I have no heat the top hose is hot the bottom luke warm, im considering going to visit my brother in law up in the mountains here on sunday and would appriciate some heat or i just cant take the tank with me. There has been no work to the transmission since i have owned it and the PO said the heat worked great.

I have a brand new completly machined head on the car with a new Thermostat. I cannot get any air to blow from the top vent's. It feals like there may be alittle heat comming from the bottom. I check the valve and it is pointing in the correct direction. PO has ECC/ACC unit replaced once and it does appear to be working. im moving the lever 1 over left to right to the X over the snow flake, any other position turns the A/C on. I move the knob to past 85 and the blower motor kicks in high gear.


The A/C works fine and did so throughout the summer and still does, i did notice that vents were slow to change but did, there is no chage in anything under acceleration.

So for my verification from those who have been here, i should be checking the vac canister under the pass side correct? Or should i be looking at something else?

    If you have the heater valve disconnected from its vacuum supply, you should defalut to full heat..at least that's the design. It's messy, but drain a bit of coolant off (there's a brass bung on the pass. side of the block, down low and toward the back)and disconnect the heater valve and check it, also check to be sure that the heater core is unobstructed. The vacuum reservoir, by the way, is the hero sandwich shaped plastic thing mounted to the cross member that runs underneath the engine. It's probably a foot long and 4-5 inches wide, with rounded ends. Your car also has a vacuum pump--that thing near the battery--because turbos produce pressure, not vacuum, under acceleration. Accordingly there is a one-way check valve (location escapes me) that keeps the pressure/vacuum on opposites of the fence. But before you tear into any of that stuff, investigate the heater valve.       thanks for the reply, as you can see in Southern California there really isnt a use for the heater, but since i am going up the mountain ill need it, the FAQ on this issue has many suggestions but isnt very descriptive when it comes to the diff of the 740 and 760 climate control issues. Im going to pick up an aftermarket Heater Valve today and isntall it as a preventative measure anyways and see if it works better, i took the car out this morning and i did seem to get some heat, but stil the vents on top will not produce heat, though cool air or A/C air will be produced from top vent's im confused on that one.

      Ive put my ear up to the vac pump's and hear something going on in there so ill assume it itself is working.

      The one way check valve is normally located on the top of the intake manifold or in the general area.
