On a Junkyard Jaunt this Weekend? 200 1988

If you are head to the P-n-P this weekend, maybe you could have a look about for a few things for my 1986 and 1988 244s.

Scraper moldings. Need all four, but any good ones will be welcome. Mine are black, the metal part being painted black. 240s from pre-1985 won't fit. Sedan or wagons will fit.

Cover for trunk storage well. The well that's opposite from the spare tire well. Mine has water damage, and is about half-way sunk. I beleive this part is the same 1975-1993.

Any finds - email me direct ASAP.

Thanks,

Bob

I took my trunk storage cover wet it a little bit and place an extra battery i had on top of it[cover upside down].Waited a few days for it to dry and now it is flat as new! Try it with something very heavy on it,nothing to lose!

Bob, if you're a stickler for the original look, I wonder how long a crisp well cover would last in that balmy air despite fixing the leaks.

However, if you're not, 1/4" plywood, flat-black Krylon and a saber saw make one a junkyard toolkit can't crush.

Good set of scrapers is the holy grail, I hear.

I can't claim inventor's rights - this was carefully made by the P.O.

My own solution is exactly what Nelson suggested, though I've had to repeat the dampening and drying when it gets moist and sags again. Just calls for a sunny day and something heavy to keep it flat. stafford

Bob, one more thing, try to avoid calling the place, they tend to jack up the price over the phone.

if you like send me an email if you like me to meet you there. bc1_2002@yahoo.com

        Hi Bob,

        the address follows.

        Alpine used auto parts.
        1701 Packer Ln
        Stafford, TX 77477

I checked the cover and it's warped. the trunk is slightly open & i guess some rain got in, but i did check the scrapers, the rear seems to be in good, soft shape, the driver's side seem to be splitting a little, but it depends on yours.

the car is a 92 silver 244, with a car on top of it. they've been clearing out a lot of cars because scrap metal is high now. but they've been keeping the volvo's.

there's a nice 244 GL with the rear and passenger leather seats still in good condition along with the headrests, too. they had a GT, and it's gone now, so i guess it's crushed, it still had the gauges in it. if i knew they were going to crush it, i would have pulled the gauges out along with the sender.

i know the guy there, he's an iranian, and the other spanish guy behind the counter is mario. i can meet you there to cheapen the cost. i've been going there for about 15 months now. i got some exc scrapers from a 93 wagon with the power heated side mirrors for my 86 245. they still have a cruise control on a gold 89 sedan that just came in a couple of weeks ago, if you need it, we can get the price down some compare to ebay.

i'll be off next friday, sat if you would like to go down there. i live in the sugar land area.

        regards,

    Hello Bob,
I've got a junkyard that has a number of volvos. there's a nice 92 sedan that probably has the part. the car has only been picked over by me.

i can get the cover--i certainly don't need it. is it cloth or plastic? i'm going tomorrow.

    regards,

I have purchased a couple of sets of swipers from Dave Barton at the link below. He pulls high quality used ones from cars in temperate California. They fit perfectly eveytime, he provides install instruction and they are always like new. He charges approximately $42.00 for a set of 4 that work for a 244 or 245 application. As a matter of fact the first set I purchased from him was for 88 244.

    Good Luck.

I'll keep my eye open for you.

I know for a fact that one of the junk yards here has plenty of good window scrappers for the later 240s.
