Road Clearance 1800

List:
Who can tell me what the nominal road clearance should be at lowest
point on the car -- I assume under front of car, crossmember, or
whatever? My 71E seems a bit lower than others I've stood beside.
May be worn, sagging springs or...what?

    One cool way to check for spring sag is to measure from the center of the wheels straight up to the edge of the wheel wells. This takes factors like tire size and wear out of the picture.

    Mine is lowered with VPD progressive springs, so my numbers are no use to you... but here's what I got:

    LF = 12-1/8"
    RF = 12-1/4"
    LR = 13-3/8"
    RR = 13-1/8"

      My '71 E, presumably on stock springs, possibly sagged, using Phil's measuring method:
      F 12 1/4
      R 12 3/4

      It definately sits lower than the '72 E I used to have. Perhaps they boosted them up a little then for some bumper height reg? I used to bash that center muffler on mine going over pretty mild speed bumps until finally I just had it removed.

        I'd say you probably don't have the stock springs, then. Yours is as low as mine in front and lower in back, and I know mine dropped quite a lot when I put in the VPD springs vs. the OE ones.

        I'll try to remember to measure a known stock 1800S this afternoon, although I can't say whether it suffers from sag.

          Just under 14" in front, just under 13" in the rear.

            Mine is *probably* too even to have sagged down that much from stock. I guess someone must have put some lower springs on it at some point. It does have some old but pretty nice Koni's too.
