battery tray, 240

I purchased a used battery tray for my 240GLE, as mine was badly corroded from batery boil-overs. The new tray consists of the metal support tray, and a plastic insert tray. There is also a two-wire electrical cord which terminates in a rubber plug in the center of the plastic insert tray. What is this for? My 240 does not have this. I am not sure what year car this used tray was taken from. Any guesses?

The tray came from one of the cars (usually 740, maybe some 240 had it too?) that originally had a temperature sensor for the battery. If the battery was very cold, it changed the alternator output.

The system was a horrid idea, and it should be disconnected on any car that had it.

    Feel free to ignore it.

Thanks Evan. I installed the tray and tucked the wiring underneath. I use a battery warmer around the battery during subzero temps, so would have no need of the 'cold battery' connection to the alternator.
