Turbo + questions. 900

Hi everyone, I thought I might post this here as well as the 700 section.

I've got a turbo plus kit out of a '87ish 745T that I'm probably going to install in my '91 745T tomorrow. My Vo mechanic has a '90 745T at his shop with Turbo + installed that I can use for installation comparison. Something I was wondering about: Say my wastegate rod is set to allow my turbo to boost to 9 or 10 psi instead of the stock 8 psi, when I install Turbo + would this mean that it would allow my turbo to boost higher then 12 psi because the wastegate rod is not at factory spec? I want to install Turbo + in my Vo for the extra oooph it can provide at high RPM, but I don't want to push my 290K km (~181K mi) TD04 too hard. I'm not worried about the engine as it has had only 30K km since its rebuild and is in good tune. Will my boost stay basically the same as it is now under ~3500 RPM and/or not at full throttle? I was hoping that it would act normally unless I demanded more by flooring the accelerator. Thanks in advance for any responses!

The best advicxe you can have is to make sure you also install a air to fuel ratio meter no matter how or where you set your boost!

Hi Park, thanks for the response. Yeah, I know an air/fuel ratio meter is a good idea, as is an acurate boost guage, but I was trying to avoid that stuff. I figured using a Volvo acessory that was designed for the car, would avoid these problems. If Volvo designed Turbo + for the B230FT, then I figured it would be safe. I'm not worried about fuel delivery as the injectors were cleaned when the engine was rebuilt 30K km ago and I always run premium fuel (91 Octane). Maybe I'll hook up the turbo + and take it for a drive with an accurate pressure guage hooked to the turbo to make sure the boost is where it should be.

hi there, as i understand it, the system ups the boost, but it comes with a computer to detect knock/detenotaion and back off or bleed off excess compressed air so you do not melt your pistons. kinda like the saab a.c.p. system. check out turbobricks.com for more info b.t.w. i do not have this system but am researching the saab system for my 85 turbo because i need to up the boost and keep my current engine intact. good luck

      Hi Hardknocks,

I didn't realize Turbo + had knock/detenation detection like the Saab APC. That's good! Also, the car has the overboost fuel shutoff too. I'm going to leave that alone :)
