240 Speakers 200

I have a 1993 240 and I've decided she'll be with me at least through college but most likely longer. However, the front driver side speaker makes a buzzing noise if I turn the radio up too loud. I've removed the grill and one of the wires has become disconnected on the speaker. So, I'd like to replace the front speakers. Could anyone tell me what size speakers I need to buy as well as suggest a brand or two? The CD player I currently have is by Pioneer.

Thanks!

Get the Kenwood KFC-1069S 4 inch speakers. Crutchfield carries them
for $49.99 a pair. They'll blow you away...

Those 4-in Kenwoods sound great and fit fine in my son's 81, but I think the post-85 240's used bigger speakers.

Crutchfield is a perfectly fine place to buy good to high quality audio equipment for your Volvo. I have bought two different low end am/fm/tape heads from Crutchfield with no complaints.

I am not an audiophile and I only want decent sound, without buzzing and rattles. I do not run at max volume or even half volume so I do not need high watt speakers.

I went to AutoZone and bought the speakers their book said would fit. I think the speakers were less than $10.00 each. They almost fit. I had to cheat a little on the mounting points for the front and I left the covers off the ones in the back. No one rides in the back anyway.

Been that way for over a year now. Still sounds OK to me.

The original speakers are made from cheap paper and are overdue for replacement.

Call Crutchfield; they are experts and make life easy.

I have Pioneers (I think) in the front. Initially I tried to work with the odd shaped Volvo speaker frame but removed it and installed the new round speakers almost flush with the door.

The sound quality improvement is huge. Went with an Alpine CD player for low-key apperance; green keys fit nicely with the 240 image.

Why not just reattach the wire?

By the way, if your radio starts making funny noises the louder you turn it up, that's usually a sign that you are doing damage of some kind. In other words, don't keep turning it up. heh heh heh...

As for brands and such, I couldn't tell you. Perhaps you should take a look over at www.crutchfield.com

Is this a 244 or a 245 (Sedan or Wagon)? If it's a 244 you might be able to put some speakers in the back with relative ease, as there really isn't a place to mount rear speakers on a 245.

Good luck!

I replaced the fronts in my '85 245 with Boston Acoustics Rally series 4". I first tried some cheaper ones, but they were too deep, window ran into the magnet. They were a little more than $100, but they really sound great.
