How good of a car is a 95940T Wagon

So, on the last trip I went on with my parents, they were complaining about back pain in their 1994 Camry. I also don't find the car nearly as conforable as the my 240. I used this to con dad to go look at 95 944T automatic transmission wagon with 80,000 miles. It seems like a very nice car. Are there things to watch out for with these cars? How would the upkeep compare to my 88 244 which I love? I was wondering if the talegate had been repalced, because it just said 940 on the back. It said nothing about being a turbo, but it did have one under the hood. Also there was no turbo vaccume guage. Shouldn't the car have that too? This is a car new car dealor, and they said that they bought it at acution. Seems kind of strange, but who knows. Does this year and model suffer from a bad wireing harness, or bad ecu? Finally, if they agree on the car, does this sound like good car to have. I don't wan't to advise them wrong. They are asking 10K for it. I would think that they would go down in price, but who knows how much. This car only has 15K less miles then the camry, but if it's been maintained,it should still last a long time,as there Camry would too I would think. However, I don't know a whole lot about turbos and what they do to an engene. Do they where them out faster? Finally, are these cars built at least as well as the 240s?
Thanks and happy bricking.

They're not bad at all. I've done 4000 Miles in my '95 940 turbo in the last 3 weeks. Though it's M90 manual box did file for divorce a day before its last trip. If you're in the States I think the manual wasn't offered.

Check it out properly. I don't kow values where you are. 940's are very safe in an accident, but can be swines to repair following crash damage. Any premium price car of that age should have cast iron verifiable history, and no accident damage, ever.

The only real weakness is the radiator, many though not all have a gearbox oil/water heat exchanger. If it blows water gets into the box and will wreck it. I'd insist on a new quality/genuine rad.

Petrol gauges are prone to failing. check for steering rack, track rod end wear. Check whether the nivomats are functioning. On the whole though those late cars are extremely well sorted. This list is not exhaustive, read the FAQ

    Regards

Those are excellent cars! Basically a more luxurious, refined 240 with a turbo. Originally developed from the 740 chassis which evolved from the 240.

Will last as long as a 240 if properly maintained. Maybe longer as the engines are stronger than the 240's because of a few improvements. Then again, the turbo might cut longevity...Also more rust resistant than a 240. Personally, I have never seen one with rust. Very well built car...

No wiring harness or ECU problems as far as I know. Electrical system is newer and supposedly better than a 240.

Both the 940 and the 240 have their good points. Depends on what you are looking for...940's are more modern, ride better, quieter etc. overall a more luxurious ride. 240's are more communicative to the driver, simpler and probably a little cheaper to maintain.

I believe the 94 and 95 940's don't have the turbo badges. Volvo used a silly level 1 and level 2 designation for the 940 in those years. Related to level of equipment. All level 2's are turbos. Not sure about level 1, but I think most, if not all, are NA.

IMHO - Do some research on the 900 board, check out the 700/900 FAQ too for problems etc.

Even if it is mint, 10K is way too much for that car IMO!!

My 95 944T came from the factory with no turbo badges, boost guage or any other indication of it being turbo charged.
The 1995/94 940 Turbos are, IMO, amoung the very best Bricks ever made. I've owned and driven a lot of Volvo's over the years and still own five. My 95 944T is amoung my all time favorites. With the exception of the dreaded wrinkling door panels, this Brick has been a reliable, powerful, and a real joy to own and drive. Despite my enthusiasm for this year and model ... ten Gs is way too much to pay for it ... six would be a more reasonable price, if it's in excellent condition with verifiable low miles. Just my $.02
