1990 240 5 spd my reverse lights dont work . i checked the bulbs and they are fine does any one have any suggestions on this problem ? i cant pass state inspection until i get this fixed ...

The switch is on the top of the transmission, very hard to reach without dropping the trans slightly. Check the wires, sometimes they rub against the driveshaft.

Could be as simple as the switch is dirty or needs replacing, the switch at the bottom of the stickshift. Go to one of those battery/electric places. They can usually tell you the problem and fix it for around 30 bucks. Saves you a LOT of time and guesswork.

That's OK the ones on my '90 aren't working either. On my car, the wiring harness connection at the taillights is a problem - was on my '83 sedan as well. It's those silly printed circuits that Volvo uses on the 244 taillights.

Before you go after the switch, see if you have 12V coming through the harness when the car is in reverse. If you do, it's not the switch, but the poorly designed connection at the taillight that's you're problem. I can get mine to work for awhile by cleaning the connectors and jiggling them until the lights work. Maybe someone can suggest a way to rig the connector so the lights work all the time.

Well I may not be of much help since I am not familiar with your car, but usually when that happens you should look at the reverse switch at the transmission or the transmission shifter.
