? on Chk Eng Light - Code 2-1-2 Ox Sensor ??? 200

HI All,

I have a 89 240 sedan and the Chk Eng lgt just came on. I read the codes and had a 2-1-2 and 2-3-1. I think the 2-3-1 is being caused by the orig 2-1-2.
How difficult is it to replace the ox sensor ??? Are any special tools needed.

I would like to this myself if possible as I just had a mechanic replce an alternator and it cost me over 400.00

Should I stay with Bosch replacement.

thanks for any help ..

Just because you got a 2-1-2 code is DTC for the O2 sensor doesn't mean the O2 sensor is bad. The sensor needs to be checked to determine if it is bad. Check with a multimeter and check with the engine running and warm the voltage between pin 1 and gnd should vary between .1 and .9 volts. A constant value of .5 volt is good.

The 2-3-1 code could be different for your injection system. I have information on LH2.4, the LH2.2 could be different. The 2-1-2 seems to always been the o2 sensor.

The info I have for the 2-3-1 code indicates the cause for the code if mixture is lean is [air leaks, low fuel pressure, faulty sensor signals]. If the mixture is rich [high fuel pressure, contaminated engine oil, leaking injectors, leasking (EVAP) valve, faulty sensor signals, leak in exhaust system ].

    Hope this helps.
