purists beware... this is what happens when a fella has a good fressh B20 with crappy running downdraft weber, a spare pair of SUs, but not all the right parts to do the job right.
How many things can you find that I've done wrong? (there are good reasons for all of 'em, and the car is now running quite nicely, thank you)

Only one choke cable hooked up, fuel line dangerously close to the head and exhaust manifold, a linkage that looks ready to jam wide open, and a plastic oil line to the direct reading gauge.....I think I'm going to be sick.....bubuhwuhhuhblaaph!!!!!!

My car only has the front carb hooked up to choke... There isn't a fitting for the rear carb, i think... And actually, Rhys, the little clamp that holds the choke wire in place on my car is stripped, and i don't have a functioning choke... I won't be driving it around this winter though, it's basically parked for the winter, i'm going to drive it tonight, but that'll be it except for monthly(or more often) romps to keep it alive.
Sorry for the thread jack!
-Kyle, who also has more to say about other stuff with his car, but is lazy and tired of it, and might get around to it some other time in his own thread... =D

If you need another clamp Kyle, you have only to ask.....

Oh yea... The fuel line. Thanks for reminding me... I'll be sure to put a fire extinguisher in the car before I drive it. It actually ain't as bad as it looks.
As fer linkage... see reply to George's post.
Car starts fine with one choke... of course, on really cold mornings I can just pull the other jet down manually. I'll get a rubber band to hold that one up for normal driving of course :-)
The oil line... definitely a problem. Don't like them cheap gauges a bit, and I'll get rid of that. It does work, and shows a solid 60psi at warm idle.
Oh... I forgot also that the pics don't show the AWG10 romex holding that obnoxious heater hose away form the exhaust manifold via the alternator adjuster bracket...
cheers... no need to be sick

LOL - the funny thing is engines like that can run very well. Reminds me of the "rat bike" phenomenon, where the machine is made to look like hell and runs strong. In the old days many sleeper street cars looked like beaters and ran like pro-stocks.....

It might have been a feint of the heart, or some such.
More likely faint of heart.
I think squeamish fits better.
The linkage bracket mounting, breather hoses, no air cleaners, pcv hose
routing, return spring anchors, heater hose routing, vac hose to back carb
kinda strange, only one choke cable hooked up....
I'm sure if I looked I would see more but wife.mil has expressed a desire to
go to Monterrey restaurant.
Glad to hear the car runs nicely. Better put some rock strainers over those
carbs though - too much rifraff getting through lately.
Ben is now driving the Yellow Peril. Haven't examined nf pumps yet but
DO have a filter before and after the pump and it is running well.
Primary filter dirtying fast so he'll have a spare to replace that one
when he needs it.

Yes... squeamish would not be inappropriate...
I'd say you passed the quiz. More detailed pictures would reveal other problem areas... such as each carb is only bolted on with two nuts and the like...
But to address your concerns...
linkage bracket mounting... The linkage piece came off my 122 auto parts car. It wasn't long enough, so I took it off and moved it closer, but only allowing for one of the bolts. I was just out in the shed looking for something else (a vacuum retard distributor to see if this car has a vacuum advance unit...see below), and found the correct linkage piece to fix this ussue. That'll be done in short order.
This is a good motor... air cleaners will be installed. Though I don't know what good they'll do. The manifold I used was full of mud wasp nests. I rinsed it best I could. the water came out clean, so I think I got all the mud out.
PVC hose routing... Hell, I don't know whats up with that. Thats how the car came. PVC to a 'T' connection at the oil filler cap, then onto some sort of home made blowby catch receptacle. Made from a 1qt plastic bottle that originally contained liquid distilled from aloe vera leaves... ? Stuff like that really gives a fella an idea as to the car's previous owner history I reckon.
Whats wrong with the throttle return spring anchors? Them nails are dual purpose... they take up the space between the different thickness manifolds, and give me somewhere to put them springs. I made sure to get 'em good and tight so they don't fall out and let the air out of my tires. For the lower ones, I ran out of nails so I used some ~10-32 machine screws. One brass, the other copper...
Someone cut the damn solid heater tube that normally goes under the manifold so they could hook the coolant line to the weber. The back one was long enough to get to the water pump. I'll put a longer yet one there later so I can take the valve cover off.
Vac hose goes to the distributor. It looks bigger than it should... thick walled. It's OK. Thats where the it was on the red 145, which is where the carbs came from. And yes... I have confirmed that this car has a vacuum *advance* distributor. $50 car deal keeps getting better.
Only one choke cable present... car probably came with strombergs originally. Or one of the cables was cut with the weber install...
Good to hear the yellow peril is on the road. Perhaps 'green peril' would be appropriate for this '69 of mine. Its a good vehicle for getting firewood in tight places, and it keep the wood dry.
