Another fake GT on eBay 200

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31877&item=2494088124&rd=1

I wonder if the seller knows.

While you're at it, check out the spoiler on the blue '87 sedan.

    Actually... 200

    Incorrect.

There were approximately 500 Black 1980 GT's with thin red pinstripes sold north of the border only. There have been a couple of them pop up for sale on eBay over the last year or 2.

Okay, Rich. Thanks for the correction. That's a new one on me. Everything else about it does seem authentic. The thing that made me think it was a fake was the full size spare tire and tire well. Must not have had the same trunk layout as U.S. models. Or were all '80 GT's like that? I assumed someone had gone to a great deal of trouble to fabricate a "rare" model.
Did they have an 'E' engine?

Little known Volvo facts that swim in my brain all day...

Full size spare was likely an add on as they came with dummy tires out the door. Only 78 GT's had the flat spare wells. The 80 GT's all had Virgos, so Volvo figured they could take away the upper and lower tie bars, soften up the sway bars and keep the same handling. GT's always had B21F's. The B23E didn't show up until 1981 with the GLT.

That makes the 79 GT pretty much the ultimate GT. All the suspension goodies, sunroof standard, plus some were even made with power stuff too. Plus I am very much partial to the silver with the big stripes.

        80GT = fancy DL 200

All the '80 GTs I've seen have had none of the performance goodies that the earlier cars had, no strut bars, wimpy sway bars, stock springs, they also had the later trunk layout including the almost full size weight saver spare. They did get fog lights, Virgos and the interior trim package.

Originally came with 23 mm/21 sway combo, like a 24xT.

Are you sure about that Bob? I could have sworn the '80s I've seen had a 19mm front and a little skinny back bar. It's been a while and I'm usually pissed when I see it's an '80 'cause there are no strut braces so I just walk on by.

              Dave,

And the next thing you'll tell us is that even though it's in the junkyard, it's still generally rust free and intact...

ARGH!!! I could make a heck of a business out of that...

Well, yes usually. Once in a while I see one that has floor rust from firewall leaks that soak the carpet or a rust bucket that came from elsewhere.

I remember one poor soul who was down from up in your area that was almost in tears over a 122 that was in the PNP. Totally rust free and mostly still there, he said up north people would just about kill to get a shell like that. If it wasn't for transportation costs there probably would be worth bringing one or two up.

We do have down sides, our freeways tend to be hard on daily drivers, I have stopped driving the ES to work as I've almost been hit twice by people changing lanes at high speeds. I switched to cars I can replace fairly easily.
                Cheers

Thanks, Dave. This is another one that gets filed under, "Things I should have known."
This is interesting because I have done most if not all of the (early) GT suspension upgrades on my DL as well as add an M46 and tach.
Hmmm...maybe I should change my alias to 'G.T. Wannabe'.
