Replacing Hi-Pressure P/S hose 200 1978

Pinpointed the source of my big P/S fluid leak: the high pressure hose has torn. I've ordered a new hose. (Boy, those things are expensive...)

The installation looks fairly straightforward...but a pretty tight space to work in. Still not sure how I'm going to get the old hose disconnected from the rack, or the new one attached. I can see the fastener/fitting, but reaching it will be a challenge. (My P/S resevoir mounts above an A/C compressor, so it's a long way down to the rack.) I'm thinking maybe a socket with lots of extenders, to reach all the way out of that tight space.

Very interested in tips/tricks from those who've done this job.

    Replacing Hi-Pressure P/S hose 200 1978

Double definitely do the rack connection from the bottom. Can't remember the wrench size(s) but you should use a good fitting end wrench (metric). Those banjo type fittings can be real hard to break loose. The bolt heads are thin and if you round them off your into it up to your knees (standing). Remove the splash pan, if present and you may have to remove the return fitting first to get the wrench on the pressure fitting. You may need new copper sealing washers but some are reused. The pump fitting should be undone with two end wrenches so the fitting in the pump does not loosen. This fitting has an O-ring under it and could leak afterwards.

This is late info if you've already ordered a hose but I had a hose made up at a local hydraulic supply house for under $40 (USD). The local parts stores wanted $70-$150.
