Hello...
I'm a newby and this is my first post here. I am a veteran of Volvo for nearly 35 years and have owned several. My brother just retired from his Volvo repair business up in Maine, and while I have never been in the Volvo business, I've had no shortage of professional support, mostly free, we'll sorta free!
I can't say enough about the indistructable, tank armoured, never burn oil, go 300K, (230-B) and also with turbo too, no less, to boot!
But I've never owned a diesel Volvo, or 6 cyl. or any before 1984, or after 1990!
Currently, my second car is my 1990 740 slate gray wagon, and the dash and leather are still in tact, but has a young 170K and go's to the dump, and to the garden supply, and to the boat launch ramp, actually, it has more fun than my primary car, that one has to go to work everyday, what a drag!
Anyway, my name is Steve, and I do all my DIY and have touched nearly every nut and bolt on a 200 and 700 series. So I'll help where I can, and learn what nuts and bolts I've missed...........

Hello Volvosteel.....
Greatly apprieciate the welcome..Lived a short while in Huntington Beach back in 1974.
I pretty much do the same in my back yard! Recently, I had to clean up the back yard taking two engine's to the dump, one was a 90 B230 that only needed a head gasket, the other was a 6 cylinder MB diesel, I still got a 5 cylinder MB diesel engine sitting on blocks waiting for a rust free benz to go in. My current 90 740 wag I just replaced the engine with one I bought for $100. with only 120K. the car had 160K for $500. All but two of my Volvo's over the years I have replaced engines but haven't needed to replace any trannies. Before that, there were quite a few others including my very first car, a 64 Valiant.
Many years ago, my brother guided me in rebuilding my 85 760 turbo, my first rebuild, and I drove that car 300K!
Even if I could afford have the work done, I'd still rather do my own mechanicals! I do get a sence of accomplishment and love working on them.
Look forward posting here.........Steve

Hello jeff.......Thank you for your welcome here.
My brother's Volvo repair shop was last in Rockport, and many years before that was in Camden. His name is Wally Brown. He just took an early retirement due to his failing health and is currently aboard his 63' motor sailer "Metacomet" heading for Burmuda as I write! He still has his shop, but will not likely return to back to re-open the business unless one or both of his sons, who worked with him, becomes interested!
Look forward to posting here..........Steve

Hi Steve,
Welcome from the AARP chapter. Most of my time has been on the 200s (since 1990), so I look forward to your 700 expertise.

Hello Bruce.....And thank you for the welcome, but dont remind me about AARP yet, I still have seven months left being young!
You have a morfed Volvo with a V-8 I see, did you do the transplant? A friend also converted his 240 wagon several years ago with a 302 and was pretty quick!
Looking forward to posting here..........Steve

Yeah, I put the V8 into an '80 GLE by myself, back in '94-'96, using a Converse "kit" (mixed emotions on that). It was a 5.0 liter HO from an '89 Mustang. I enjoyed it for about 7 years and 100k , then sold it when the body got too crumbly to keep up with.

Seems I lost your post a second ago as I'm not familiar with working all the buttons and knobs here yet! I did read it on the email though.....Looking forward to post with everyone here..........Steve

Hello...Thank you for your welcome here. My current 90 740 has a regina also and I think it's the first Volvo I've had that injection system in. So far I've had no repairs to do on it, although I probably need to do filters soon. The engine that is in my 740 is a transplant from a 90 240. The only changes from engine to engine was the flywheel, and distributor. I left the old distributor in and with cap off so now you can watch the rotor turn if your board!
Look forward to posting..................Steve

Hello...Never talked with anyone from the Netherlands before... Thank you for your welcome. I've been looking for a good Volvo forum and recently found this one. Many others did not go into the older Volvos to much, mostly newer stuff.
Looking forward to posting with everyone here.........Steve

Hi Steve, nice to meet you.
Sounds like you've already had a Brickboard full of life experience yourself. But like me, you'll probably learn something new every day here.
The archives here are huge and go back many years. They've probably covered just about any car-related subject at one time or another. The picture galleries are a lot of fun too (though I think the new squeeze-to-fit format is a little weird, guys!) And the 700/900 series FAQ is a wonderful resource.
Hopefully we'll all learn things from each other, that's what makes the Brickboard great.

Hi Rob
Thank you for your welcome. Oh yes, I do remember the Waterford Volvo police cars, and Caldrello Volvo, as I once lived in that area.
Are all those Volvo's yours? My first Volvo is pictured in the lower left of you photo, 240 Turbo wagon, same color, but it was an 84. The last Turbo I had was an 85 1/2, that's how they listed the year, white 760 wagon, standard tranny, first year for the 700 wagons! Drove that car 300K, was the best car I've owned to date! Actually, the drive train and engine ran perfectly in the end before donating it to the salvage yard! The rockers were rotted and the interior was pretty shot...it was time!
