power window regulator issue - passngr door 700 1989

passenger power window quit working from either master console or affected passenger door..took regulator out of door .... 12 volts at regulator motor using car wiring powered from switch; regulator motor works fine in up mode .. doesn't work in down mode;
powered direct from battery; motor works at half speed one way; reverse wires; works fine ..
I'm not sure what's bad?
thanks

could be the switches themselves...remove the switch at the driver's door/dis-assemble switch/clean contacts/probably will work better/same thing happened to me-slow going down/ok going up...volvo switches are built well & strong...just like older saab & mercedes switches they can be dis-assembled, contacts cleaned & re-assembled...

Just a guess, but the window regulator might have worn out. There is a large rivet that holds the moving arms(don't know the proper terms for these parts) to the regulator. The hole that the rivet passes through these arms wears out and the play that this generates causes the regulator to bind up. This happened on the drivers door regulator on a 1990 760 I once owned. A quick trip to the local junkyard procured a good used one and the window has worked fine ever since. I hope this helps.
