My son drives our 89 240. He wants to put a roof rack on top to carry his surf boards. Anyone have any suggestions? Will any old roof rack work? Head to WalMart?

I use the brackets with some thrifted Thule bars. It's a great setup for my canoes.

I have a set of Yakima gutter mounts on my 89 244. Some folks like Thule's but I've always been happy with the Yak's. They carry my surfboards and kayaks without a problem.

Is it a 245 (wagon) or a 244 (sedan)?

The stock roof rack on my '80 245 is really a joke. I'm probably going to remove it if and when I have the car painted.

Don't know if there was an original chromed steel one for the earlier sedans, but the one on my 81 wagon is strong, well reinforced and nice looking.
