I was talking the other day to some friends and mentioned that I was filling up with 89 octane ARCO gas. One of the guys said that he heard ARCO was bad gas. I didn't really believe him but decided to fill up a few tanks with Shell anyway just to see what would happen (other than spending about $3/tank more money). I have gone through about 1 full tank of Shell and that car really runs smoother and has stronger acceleration. I also noticed that it didn't lag this morning just after startup like it used to. Anyone else had this happen?

My mom's Nissan will ping on Arco. It's fine on Unocal, Chevron, Mobil, or Shell.

My '91 gets 1/2 mpg less on Acro "premium" compared to Unocal or Chevron.

So yes, they are crappier, and there is a difference.
