Just bought one off eBay, but I can't find the bolt-holes in the console to attach the legs. Anyone know where they are?

BTW, I just got my car back from my mechanic (the best Volvo guy in DC). I had an IPD exhaust put in, K&N, tuneup, new belts, including timing belt. There is a slight but real (and helpful) increase in power. Thanks again to all who advised me on this.

I just got a great one from Hawaii off eBay! Move the front seats all of the way forward. Behind the front seats there are bolts in the parking brake cover close to the bottom. These have to be replaced with a longer bolt. There are also two (2) phillips head screws in the parking brake cover that need to be longer to fasten the brackets. These are used just to keep it vertical, the bolts hold it. At least that is the way my '86 245 is laid out. Hope it helps.

All that was supplied was the armrest, the two legs, the long bolt that joins the legs to the armrest and the corresponding nuts for each end, and two thick, short bolts. Do I need to buy something else?

On your '88 you need to remove the seat belt bolts, take the large washer out from under the brackets and replace the bolt with the armrest legs between the belt receivers and tunnel. The screws that are about half way up the console may not be long enough, screws that hold the door pocket mounts are a good length and diamter.

Don't get rid of it! It only takes about ten minutes to install. I put mine in the night of a 10 hour trip to Kentucky and was "blessed with a rest". I'll take some pictures of mine and post them later today so you can see the installation.

You don't need longer bolts if you remove the washer that goes between the seat belt receivers and the tunnel. A longer screw is avalable at any hardware store, just take your old one and get one the same size and ~1/2" longer. The armrests are well worth the trouble, you'll wonder how you ever lived witout it.

Also the bolts angle down a bit, my first one I spent quite a bit of time trying to put them in straight, ~15 degrees down would be my guess.

And I never realized how much the armrest would help with shifting! It's just so easy to leave my hand by the shifter--almost like driving an automatic.

I'm wondering why they did not put these in all of the 240s. There is absolutely no place to catch a break with the right arm!

I'm working on a replacement OD solenoid mounted somewhere besides behind the dash! Keep you posted.
