Snow tire size for 91 volvo GLE 900 1991

The tires on mu 91 Wagon are 195/60/R15. I went to purchase some snow tires. the sales person quoted me 195/65/R15. Is this ok?

    The Owner's handbook recommends snow tire size of 185/65-15. It is also possible to buy 195/60-15 snow tires (frequently used on 850's) although these are wider and therefore less good in snow. 195/65 is a larger than stock tire, and would generally not be recommended for snow tire use.

      Just a comment about the aspect ratio, which transfers into foorprint width. This "2-cents worth" is from my conversations with a Gislaved dealer and a Nokian factory rep last winter. Earlier snow tires depended mostly on tread design and therefore used a smaller footprint to concentrate weight and "sink" into accumulated snow. Later technology relies more on composition. So, if you're driving in heavy, packed snow, go narrower with a more aggressive treat pattern, but for ice, slush and light snow, go for larger area, ie., lower number aspect ratios. BTW, I recommene Noklians.
